Baltimore, Baltimore!
If hell has a basement it’s Baltimore!
Vainglory and excess
unite in my heart- in Baltimore
Hopelessly waiting like rats for the dawn intangible dreams are melting like snow
Desperate eyes and looks of betrayal
Like swine gathered ‘round the trite trough of Tantalus
Drive by shooting-
3am love letters
to the lord of death
Heavy bass blows the trumpet
another devils earns its wings
Back street basement bacchanal-
green rain and golden shower
diaspora and dying dignity
sucking dick for the lie of the day
Cancer and sore beneath trembling promise, a beckoning whore with festering sores!
Shadow and poison, mirrors and smoke-
and under it all lies a graveyard of pleasure.
A thousand serpents all writhing together, though void in their hearts and their words and their eyes; while scale rubs on scale and venom grows weak, blood becomes thin, like water through vein.
Baltimore.
If hell has a basement it’s Baltimore.
If hell has a hell, then it’s Baltimore.

What the moral? Who rides may read.
When the night is thick and the tracks are blind
A friend at a pinch is a friend, indeed,
But a fool to wait for the laggard behind.
Down to Gehenna or up to the Throne,
He travels the fastest who travels alone.
White hands cling to the tightened rein,
Slipping the spur from the booted heel,
Tenderest voices cry ” Turn again!”
Red lips tarnish the scabbarded steel,
High hopes faint on a warm hearth-stone
He travels the fastest who travels alone.
One may fall but he falls by himself
Falls by himself with himself to blame.
One may attain and to him is pelf
Loot of the city in Gold or Fame.
Plunder of earth shall be all his own
Who travels the fastest and travels alone.
Wherefore the more ye be helpen-.en and stayed,
Stayed by a friend in the hour of toil,
Sing the heretical song I have made
His be the labour and yours be the spoil.
Win by his aid and the aid disown
He travels the fastest who travels alone!

Filling the void with luxury
crossing into endless night
where glittering eyes look on
from the shadows
like diamonds in the dark
Money never sleeps and nor do we
This decadence takes commitment
Hungrily devouring these sybarite shores
Like carrion in the dark
Less faith in gods than man
and no faith in man at all
such empty hearts
this world produced
It wasn’t the life we’d have chosen ourselves
but every single romance is shattered
like a ship on the jagged rocks of truth
that lighthouse that beckoned us onward
was it fed by treacherous hands?
Future lovers who have now long betrayed us
friends who proved false in the moment
dreams that we had as youth-
scattered now across the shores of Sheol
Fires long gone out in shrines to gods of hope
and the offerings on those altars
have been eaten by rats and dogs
There’s a certain satisfaction in knowing
you were right at the bleakest of times
you were right all along especially
when your only desire was to be wrong
you had died and were already in hell
where the only thing left was:
Consume every man/every woman/every dollar
every vice/every filth/every stone
and somewhere in that distillation
of gold, and of glamor, and of bone
you found that none of it mattered
just killing the time til you’re gone
Less faith in gods than man
and no faith in man at all
